his weeks topic is Top Ten Books I Wish Had (More/Less) X In Them. Well I am listing books (8) I wish had less annoying characters. I mean some of these books I still really liked but all of these had at least one annoying character I could do without.

Do annoying characters ruin books for you?

  1. I haven’t read any of the books listed but I get why they made the list. Annoying characters suck. I’m glad that some of the books were still good despite the dumb characters.

Hi! I’ve only seen the movie version of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Which character annoyed you the most? Annoying characters are the worst šŸ™‚

Annoying characters can definitely ruin the book. You need a strong, likeable character in contrast in order to keep on reading; if the annoying character dominates the story I find that I usually pick up something else. Great list idea. Two of these books are on my TBR, now I’m wondering if I should read them? (Me, Earl and the Dying Girl and The Last Anniversary.)

  4. I HATE annoying characters – although I generally find its the supporting character who are given the really irritating parts. But those kind of characters – especially the ones who talk to much or are overly emotional – they just make me skim read the story – and then I get annoyed at myself for doing it lol. Its a vicious cycle of annoyingness.

  5. Hey Grace,

Yes annoying characters do ruin books for me! For example the lead girl in 50 Shades Of Grey. I could get down to reading more of a story like that if such boring characters were omitted!
